1. Spray right after a shower
Fragrance clings best to clean, warm, slightly damp skin. Spraying right after you shower and dry off helps it settle in.
2. Moisturize first
Dry skin lets fragrance evaporate faster. An unscented lotion or a dab of petroleum jelly on your pulse points gives the scent something to hold onto.
3. Hit your pulse points
Neck, chest, inner wrists and behind the ears are warm spots that help project the scent through the day.
4. Don't rub your wrists
Rubbing breaks down the lighter top notes faster. Spray, then let it dry on its own.
5. Spray your clothes too
Fabric holds scent longer than skin. A light mist on a scarf or the inside of a jacket can keep it going all day. Test on a hidden spot first, since some fragrances can stain delicate fabrics.
6. Choose a stronger concentration
Eau de Parfum and Parfum generally last longer than Eau de Toilette. See our guide to EDT vs EDP vs Parfum.
7. Pick long-lasting notes
Woods, amber, vanilla, tonka, patchouli and musk tend to last much longer than citrus and fresh aquatic notes.
8. Layer with matching products
A matching shower gel or body lotion, often included in gift sets, builds a base that helps the fragrance last.
9. Store bottles properly
Heat, light and humidity break fragrance down. Keep bottles in a cool, dark place, not on a sunny bathroom counter.
